Professional Development

MCCA staff are highly qualified professionals with a passion for delivering high-quality, play-based child care. MCCA requires all staff to complete annual professional development requirements that meet or exceed state licensing regulations. Staff who work directly with children are required to complete up to 12 hours of Office of Child Care (OCC) approved training annually. Staff are required to document their training sessions as part of MCCA’s performance appraisal process. Supervisors work individually with each staff member to create professional development plans that clarify their professional goals and ensure they are taking the necessary training to attain them.

MCCA teaching staff participate in the Maryland Child Care Credential, which encourages a career path in child care and education above and beyond basic licensing requirements.MCCA offers tuition scholarships to eligible staff who are taking college courses in Education. MCCA also provides substitute coverage, when necessary, to enable staff members to attend training.

Directors, teachers and aides receive quality assurance and technical support through staff specialists from our central administrative office who are dedicated to the continuous improvement of MCCA child care programs. Support for developmentally appropriate practice for children, curriculum implementation, staff supervision and development, licensing, Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) accreditation, EXCELS, and classroom management are all areas of specific expertise among our professional staff.
